We are looking for an experienced Resource Manager with experience in the professional services IT consulting environment preferably on the West Coast, Los Angeles, CA area. Strong candidates across the US will also be considered.
Job Overview:Manage Capacity and Resource Management for the Media and Entertainment Practice in our Telecom, Media & Entertainment Practice. This entails assigning practitioners in order to meet the Firm’s commitment to deliver quality service and to provide professional development opportunities while also maintaining the Firm’s goal of maximum utilization of consulting professionals.
Job Responsibilities:
Resource Deployment· Respond promptly to staffing requests. Make staffing recommendations that are appropriate to levels, skill sets, practitioner goals, and enhance professional growth, ensuring all relevant and available candidates to support staffing needs and utilization goals. Work closely with Service Area/Service Line partners in staffing proposals, potential next assignment, making staffing decisions and resolving conflicts. Balance needs of staff & clients for the purpose of maximizing utilization and the experience of the staff. Negotiate client assignment conflicts to satisfaction of all parties and elevate as appropriate. Awareness of utilization and pipeline outside of your staffing pool (service area, region/sector and function) in order to maximize utilization and ensure best practitioners are positioned for each opportunity. Serve as practitioner advocate on staffing calls: highlight available practitioners, solicit staffing needs. Continuous communication with practitioners and management regarding assignments, future deployment, etc.
Practitioner Information Management
- Understand practitioners skills and capabilities, development needs, and interests/goals
- Monitor and track skills matrix and resume maintenance
- Generate weekly and monthly analysis reports on resource trends and high/low demand skills to help manage the practice
- Understand the pipeline in order to assess skills needed against current capacity
- Maintain a working knowledge of our business, markets, and services
- Keep up to date with all firm communications, changes in our practice direction
- Provide proactive analysis, insights and recommendations to leadership regarding capacity and deployment to better manage operating plan and recruiting decisions
- Provide appropriate and timely reporting & analysis to leadership utilization/variance, projected utilization, availability, compliance
- Ensure data in all reporting tools are accurate and updated in a timely manner; make sure there is conformity in assignment naming
- Coordinate closely with practitioners and project managers to track current availability status and variances
- Follow up on variances with practitioners and leadership where appropriate
- Work with practitioners to ensure a high level of compliance to weekly utilization forecast emails
- Recruiting
- Work with leadership to determine recruiting needs, requires understanding of marketplace needs, current staff skills
- Work with campus/experienced hire recruiters to onboard new practitioners
- Learning
- Understand available learning programs
- Recommend appropriate and relevant training to practitioners
- Work with learning organization to ensure that appropriate processes have been followed and approvals gained for training
- HR
- Participate in new hire orientation when needed
- Work with HR to identify and accommodate practitioner HR issues where needed
- Provide feedback to management and counselors on staff performance & objectives
- Finance
- Work with Finance Managers on monthly forward look projections and other analysis as needed
- BA/BS degree and a minimum of 4 years experience in professional services firm
- Strong listening and analytical skills necessary to resolve intricate staffing issues
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal traits including confidence, responsiveness, flexibility, initiative, decision making, conflict resolution and tact
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to interact with all levels of personnel and work well under pressure
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
