Expedia is investing significantly to develop its activities in the Asia Pacific region. Expedia Asia Pacific, including Hotels.com Asia Pacific, is headquartered in Hong Kong. Expedia Australia was launched in December 2005.  In July 2004 Expedia entered China through its investment in eLong.com, a leading online travel company in China. eLong completed its NASDAQ IPO in November 2004, following which Expedia increased its investment to give it a controlling interest in the company. Expedia Japan launched in November 2006.  Hotels.com Asia Pacific has 11 sites throughout the region.  

Regional Human Resources Director, APAC 

The Human Resources Director will be responsible for developing and implementing human resource strategies and programs, and building the HR infrastructure for Expedia, Inc.’s rapidly growing Asia Pacific businesses.  This individual will work closely with the leaders of the APAC businesses to design and implement the recruitment strategy, employee relations programs, learning & development initiatives, and overall HR policies/processes, either specific for these countries, or as part of corporate wide initiatives.  He or she will also partner with US headquarters on adapting corporate wide programs in performance management, benefits, compensation, and HRIS to local needs. The HR Director will be a part of the APAC Senior Leadership team, as well as the global HR leadership team.  

8 Total Current Country Support = Hong Kong, Japan, India, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Korea and Australia.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Provide HR counsel to leadership team for all APAC Expedia, including management coaching and leadership of organizational change initiatives.
  • This position will report directly to the EVP Global HR in Seattle, WA with dotted line to President, APAC.
  • Develop, design and implement HR infrastructure and compensation plans for 8 Asia Pacific Countries (Hong Kong, Japan, India, Singapore, Thailand, Korea and Australia) including employment policies customized for each county, employment and non-compete agreements, country law required paperwork and country benefits.
  • Develop, plan and implement recruitment strategy for Asia Pacific region including all sourcing, vendor management, offer negotiation, in order to meet APAC hiring plans in the most timely and cost effective manner, while still keeping a very high bar for hiring the most talented people.
  • Develop all HR processes on hiring, on-boarding, compliance, compensation, benefits, employee relations and training.
  • Partner closely with Asia Pacific leadership team in planning and implementing HR initiatives.
  • Work closely with HR and Recruitment Managers at other Expedia, Inc. locations in driving consistency, sharing best practices, and implementing programs across the network.
  • Partner with Legal, Accounting, Finance, and relevant business areas at other Expedia, Inc locations on driving business needs/growth, and processes across APAC.
  • Ensure local and corporate wide benefit programs are communicated and implemented, so that benefits are well understood and smoothly administered
  • Working with management to assess employees’ roles and skills to ensure we have the talent and development plans to meet the needs of the business now and in the future
  • Providing management coaching and recommendations for development.
  • Meeting with and counseling employees and managers to resolve employee relations and performance management issues.
  • Lead APAC Human Resources team of 3, which consists of 2 Sr. Recruiters and 1 Human Resources Coordinator.
 Requirements: 
  • Regional Asia Human Resources experience required.
  • Minimum 8 years of Human Resources Leadership experience including strategic planning, compliance, recruitment, Employee relations, HRIS, Benefits, Compensation and Performance Development.
  • Advanced training and experience in a rapidly changing environment.
  • International recruitment experience required; experience across multiple geographies strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with a US or Europe headquartered company strong preferred.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, and experience with structured organizational and HR programs.
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal English language command; bi-lingual Chinese or Japanese desirable
  • Strong communication skills while being culturally sensitive.
  • Ability to effectively build lasting relationships by demonstrating strong communication and influencing skills throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in business, HR or related area
